President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to prioritize the strengthening of Ghana’s public health systems to mitigate the impact of potential pandemics intensified by the ongoing climate crisis.
During his inauguration ceremony on December 7 at the Black Star Square, Mahama shared his vision for a resilient healthcare framework capable of addressing emerging global health threats.
He highlighted the direct link between climate change and public health, warning of the resurgence of long-dormant viruses as the climate crisis escalates.
“The worsening climate crisis increases the likelihood of viruses thought extinct reemerging and sparking another pandemic,” Mahama stated, underscoring the toll of past epidemics on neighboring countries and the importance of readiness.
He pledged his administration’s dedication to bolstering healthcare infrastructure and closely monitoring global health trends to ensure Ghana minimizes future losses from pandemics or epidemics.
