John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has outlined plans to establish a state-of-the-art Farmers’ Service Center in Ejura to improve agricultural productivity and efficiency in the Ejura-Sekyeredumasi Constituency.

This predominantly farming area is one of the four constituencies the NDC holds in the Ashanti Region.

During the first day of his six-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Mahama pledged to introduce a fair and equitable measurement system for the sale of grains and cereals.

He also announced plans to build a modern market to support trade in the constituency.

“We will establish a Farmers’ Service Center here, equipped with 15 tractors and other essential farming tools. Farmers can register to access these tractors and request inputs like fertiliser. The center will serve as a one-stop shop for all farming needs,” Mahama explained.

In his efforts to empower women, Mr. Mahama revealed plans to establish a branch of the Women’s Development Bank in Ejura, which will provide financial support to women traders. Additionally, he promised that an NDC government would grant two public holidays for Muslims during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, doubling the current allowance of one day.

Mr. Mahama also committed to completing the Agenda 111 hospital project, initiated by the current administration, should the NDC return to power.

Concluding his address, Mr. Mahama urged constituents to avoid “skirt and blouse” voting, calling for unity in voting for both the NDC’s parliamentary candidate and presidential ticket to strengthen the party’s influence.

“We will abolish the use of size 5 in measuring maize and replace it with size 4. A small fee will be charged when selling farm produce, and we will build a new Ejura market. We will also establish a Women’s Development Bank center in Ejura,” he stated.

Furthermore, Mahama pledged to set up another Farmers’ Service Center in Wiomoase, in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency, to revitalize farming in the area.

He also assured the constituents of his commitment to attracting investors to set up factories, which would enhance agricultural productivity and boost the local economy.
