John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has launched a strong critique of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo regarding the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
In response to President Akufo-Addo’s challenge for Mahama to clarify his position on significant national issues, including the Free SHS initiative, Mahama addressed supporters in Ningo Prampram on Thursday.
He rebuffed the president, asserting that he had consistently articulated his views on both the Free SHS policy and the ongoing galamsey (illegal mining) crisis.
Mahama suggested that the president was either not paying attention or deliberately overlooking his well-publicized positions on these critical issues.
He stated, “When you stop sleeping, you’ll hear clearly my position on Free SHS,” emphasizing that he has repeatedly pointed out the challenges associated with the program.
Mahama highlighted specific implementation issues, such as the lack of a dedicated funding source, parental dissatisfaction with the double track system, and concerns over the quality of food provided to students.
He reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to addressing these challenges if elected back into power.
