President John Dramani Mahama has raised alarms about the increasing threat of terrorism in neighboring countries, highlighting the escalating security situation in the region.

During a meeting with Mali’s Prime Minister, General Abdoulaye Maiga, President Mahama expressed his concerns about the growing influence of extremist groups in West Africa and called for stronger regional collaboration to combat the rising threat.

President Mahama reassured Prime Minister Maiga that Ghana remains committed to supporting Mali and its neighbors in their fight against terrorism and efforts to restore stability in the region.

“We understand the geopolitical challenges of our sub-region and the worsening security situation in the Sahel. While this issue is not new, it has become significantly more severe with the increasing presence of insurgents and terrorist groups,” President Mahama said.

He stressed the importance of collective action to ensure the safety and security of the region. “Ghana stands in strong solidarity with Mali and will continue to work together for a safer sub-region,” he added.

Additionally, President Mahama announced that Ghana and Mali would form joint technical teams to address and resolve any challenges in their bilateral relations. These teams will work to identify key issues and collaborate on finding solutions.

Mali’s Prime Minister Maiga expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas of security and economic development.

“We are confident that the leadership of our two nations will continue to build stronger ties in both economic and security matters,” Maiga concluded.
