President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged to work relentlessly to restore Ghana’s standing as the “Black Star of Africa,” emphasizing that his re-election represents a critical legacy term during which he intends to leave a significant and positive impact before retiring from active politics.

Mahama made this commitment on Friday, December 13, 2024, while hosting the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, who brought a congratulatory message from President Xi Jinping at Mahama’s private residence in Accra.

During their meeting, the president-elect assured the ambassador that the strong partnership between Ghana and China would continue, and reaffirmed his openness to future consultations. “I am your son, and I deeply appreciate the advice and support you have provided over the years,” Mahama stated. “My doors will always be open for consultation, and I look forward to continued collaboration.”

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Mahama said, “The easy part—the elections—are behind us. Now, the real work begins. Our focus is to bring Ghana back and restore its rightful place as the Black Star of Africa, and I promise to give it my all.”

He further referred to his forthcoming term as a “legacy term,” underscoring his commitment to securing a bright future for the nation before transitioning to political retirement. “You can count on me to work tirelessly to elevate Ghana to the place it truly deserves,” he concluded.
