Nairobi, Kenya – Police in Kenya have arrested a man for carrying the mutilated body parts of his wife in a backpack.

Officers apprehended 29-year-old John Kiama Wambua during a routine patrol in the Huruma district of Nairobi. Upon searching his backpack, officers discovered human remains, prompting a thorough investigation.

Mr. Wambua reportedly confessed to the murder of his 19-year-old wife, Joy Fridah Munani. He appeared “unperturbed” by the discovery of the body parts, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Further investigation at Mr. Wambua’s residence uncovered a knife, blood-soaked clothes, and additional body parts.

This horrific incident highlights the alarmingly high rate of femicide in Kenya. According to the National Police Service, at least 97 women were murdered in the country between August and October of last year.

Recent months have witnessed several high-profile cases of violence against women in Kenya, including the murder of Olympic runner Rebecca Cheptegei and the brutal killing of Rita Waeni.

The arrest of Mr. Wambua has sent shockwaves through the nation and underscores the urgent need to address the issue of gender-based violence in Kenya.
