Angry mob

In the Nyambong area of the Nkwanta South Municipality, Oti Region, a man accused of being a wizard narrowly escaped a fatal attack by locals.

The individual faced severe violence from residents who blamed him for the death of a community member.

The accusation stemmed from the tragic death of the chief’s son, who perished in a motorbike crash while traveling back from Shiare, a nearby town.

Some community members believed that the man had used his supposed mystical powers to cause the accident.

The middle-aged man was forcibly confronted and beaten by locals who were convinced of his guilt. Despite his firm denial of any wrongdoing, the situation escalated, leading to a brutal assault.

Christian Kwaku Ndenke, the Assemblyman for the Nyambong Electoral Area, confirmed the incident in a statement to Adom News.

He described how the man was severely attacked by the mob, which was angered by the alleged crime.

In the midst of the chaos, the man managed to escape the violence and fled to a neighboring town to seek safety. The intense situation prompted the intervention of law enforcement.

Mr. Ndenke noted that the police were called to the scene to restore order and manage the conflict. However, as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the assault.

The incident highlights the dangerous consequences of accusations and the potential for violence when communities are gripped by suspicion and fear.

The local authorities are now tasked with addressing the aftermath of the attack and investigating the underlying issues that led to the incident.
