Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor expressed optimism about his team’s prospects in the Women’s Champions League following their emphatic 8-0 aggregate victory over Paris FC in the qualifying rounds.
The Sky Blues secured their place in the group stage with a 3-0 win in the second leg at Joie Stadium, building on their 5-0 first-leg triumph in Paris.
This marks City’s first appearance in the group stage since the 2020-21 season.
Taylor believes his side has the potential to make a deep run in the competition, stating, “I feel we can go a long way. Getting out of the group stage is our next objective, and from there, anything can happen.”
City’s dominant performance was highlighted by goals from Chloe Kelly, Bunny Shaw, and Laura Coombs. Shaw, who missed the first leg due to visa issues, scored twice in the second leg, including a penalty.
Despite resting key players ahead of their upcoming domestic fixture against Brighton, City maintained control of the match, limiting Paris FC’s scoring opportunities.
With their place in the group stage secured, City will now await the draw to determine their opponents. Taylor expressed excitement about the upcoming challenge, emphasizing his team’s ambition to compete for the title.
