As part of a broader initiative to ensure that the younger female generation is well-equipped with essential Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) skills, leading telecommunication network, MTN Ghana has set up Boot Camps.
MTN Ghana in collaboration with Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation seeks to help startups develop their skills and advance their careers.
Touring selected sites in Kumasi Wednesday morning with MTN Ghana, the trip took us to the Kumasi Secondary Technical School (KSTS) and Kumasi Anglican Senior High School (KASS) camps at Patasi and Amakom respectively.
Briefing the escort at KSTS, an Instructor of the Program, Mr. Vincent Jumpah, a Science and Computer Teacher emphasized the enormous importance of Girls-in-ICT training.
He said significant strides are being made to challenge and ultimately change the longstanding perception that fields related to science and technology are primarily male-dominated.
Mr. Vincent Jumpah said 18 schools and 18 students with selection from JHS 2 and Primaries 4 and 5 from the Nhyiaeso Constituency are the beneficiaries of the training program which is expected to empower them with ICT skills.
He revealed that the trainees will be able to at the end of the training program create animated stories, Websites, play Fallen Apple and Hide and Seek Games.
According to the Instructor, although some of the trainees encountered difficulties with the handling of the computers, they were able to catch up with the basics in computer.
Some of the trainees shared the skills gained in that short period of the ICT training saying they can now create their own games, learnt about Cybersecurity and how to form strong passwords.
A Facilitator at the KASS Camp, Mr. Peter Annan Jackson reiterated that the training has aroused the interest of girls in ICT training appealing that it be done always and not an annual affair.
