In an effort to close the digital divide and foster inclusive economic growth, MTN Ghana has launched a digital skills training program for small business owners in Damongo, the capital of the Savannah Region. The initiative forms part of MTN’s flagship corporate social responsibility campaign, 21 Days of Y’ello Care, which engages employees in volunteer-driven projects across the country.

The two-day training workshop, held at the Church of Pentecost in Damongo, targeted local tailors, dressmakers, hairdressers, and beauticians. Participants were introduced to practical strategies for leveraging social media platforms to grow their businesses. Topics included effective online advertising, customer engagement through promotional content, and using digital platforms to showcase products and services such as hairstyles and garments.

Facilitator Mr. Adam Akilu Gideon stressed the importance of responsible online behavior. “The internet never forgets,” he cautioned. “It’s important to be intentional about the kind of content you post. Your online presence should reflect your brand positively.”

Launched in 2007, the 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign has become a cornerstone of MTN Ghana’s commitment to community development. This year’s theme, “Connecting at the Root: Connecting Communities Through the Use of Digital Tools,” underscores the company’s dedication to enhancing digital access in underserved areas, particularly rural and marginalized communities.

Speaking on the campaign’s broader mission, Mr. Kwami Aseye Akude, MTN Ghana’s Retail Experience Manager, noted: “Our goal is not only to provide connectivity but to equip individuals with the tools and knowledge to participate meaningfully in the digital economy. We believe that when small business owners are empowered digitally, it transforms communities.”

Throughout the campaign, MTN employees across all 16 regions of Ghana are leading various initiatives to boost digital literacy, expand access to digital resources, and encourage innovative uses of technology for community advancement. The Damongo training is one of many programs making tangible differences in people’s lives across the country.

By empowering entrepreneurs with essential digital skills, MTN Ghana is helping to build a more inclusive, connected, and economically resilient society. The company remains steadfast in its mission to connect people, businesses, and communities through the transformative power of technology.
