The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has staged a nationwide protest demanding a forensic audit of Ghana’s voters register.
he party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has warned that failure to address their concerns could lead to serious consequences.
Addressing thousands of supporters in Accra on September 17, Nketia argued that the current situation is a ticking time bomb.
He urged all Ghanaians to take a stand to prevent the country from descending into chaos.
The NDC’s protest, held in all 16 regions of Ghana, was a response to the Electoral Commission (EC)’s refusal to conduct a forensic audit.
The EC has maintained that a thorough cleaning process is sufficient.
Nketia has vowed to intensify the protests if their demands are not met. He has threatened to target district and constituency offices of the EC.
“Today is just the beginning,” he said. “If you think that after the demonstration, everybody will go to sleep, you are joking.”
The NDC chief also criticized those who claim to support peace but ignore perceived wrongdoing. He argued that such actions contribute to the brewing of conflict.
“We want to send a message to those who pretend to be peace-loving,” Nketia said. “If you pretend to be peace-loving and you are condoning wrongdoing, you are actually the one brooding conflict in this country.”
