Accra, Ghana – Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been appointed Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
This appointment marks a crucial step towards the government’s goal of establishing the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key initiative aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s gold industry and contributing to the stabilization of the local currency.
The GoldBod, operating under the guidance of the Ministry of Finance, will play a pivotal role in:
- Sustainable Gold Management: Ensuring the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources.
- Formalizing Small-Scale Mining: Formalizing the small-scale gold mining sector, a critical component of the nation’s mining industry.
- Boosting Foreign Exchange: Increasing foreign exchange inflows through the efficient management of gold exports.
With gold prices projected to rise significantly in the coming years, the establishment of the GoldBod is expected to have a significant positive impact on Ghana’s economy.
Finance Minister-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson emphasized the importance of the GoldBod in stabilizing the cedi, stating, “In the long term as a country, we need to sustainably anchor the Ghana Cedi with a number of policies. First is the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board. This will help us use the gold in a way that brings in the needed forex to support the Cedi in the very short term.”
Gyamfi, who brings a wealth of experience in political communication and economic policy, is expected to play a crucial role in the successful establishment and operation of the Ghana Gold Board.
