Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sold more state lands to private individuals than the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Nitiwul’s remarks come amid a growing debate between the two political parties over the sale of state lands, with each side accusing the other of improper transactions.

Nitiwul acknowledged that both parties had sold state lands, but emphasized that the NDC had a larger record of land sales. He also denied that the Akufo-Addo administration had sold military lands, explaining that the military only engages in limited private partnerships, rather than selling land to individuals.

“We have not given out any state lands to anyone,” Nitiwul clarified. “We do private partnerships to a limited extent, but we do not sell land to individuals. The issue of state land must be viewed in a broader context.”

Nitiwul further stated, “If you look at both parties’ land dealings, the NDC has sold more state lands than the NPP. The policy of selling lands, known as ‘in-filing,’ began under the NDC administration between 1996 and 1998.”

The ongoing debate over the sale of state lands has sparked calls for increased transparency and accountability in government land transactions.
