Volta River Aviation has clarified that the helicopter that made an unexpected landing in Nkawkaw on Wednesday, August 13, did so solely due to poor weather conditions — not because of a mechanical issue.

In a statement released by the company’s legal representative, Nana Yaw Ntrakwah, Esq., the aviation firm emphasized that the landing was a precautionary safety measure in accordance with standard aviation protocols.

“The helicopter landed safely in Nkawkaw due to poor weather conditions, in line with standard aviation safety protocols. The decision to land was a precautionary measure,” the statement said.

“At no point was the safety of the helicopter, passengers, crew, or the public compromised. The appropriate authorities were duly notified.”

Once weather conditions improved, the helicopter resumed its journey and successfully completed its mission, the company confirmed.

This clarification follows an earlier statement from the Volta River Authority (VRA), which addressed public questions surrounding the aircraft’s ownership. While acknowledging the VRA’s input, Volta River Aviation reiterated that its primary focus remains the safety of lives and adherence to aviation standards.

“Our client wishes to reaffirm its commitment to transparency and safety in all aviation activities,” the company added.

The emergency landing had initially raised public concern, especially in light of a recent tragic military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, which killed eight people — including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Murtala Muhammed.

Volta River Aviation’s swift clarification aims to reassure the public that the Nkawkaw incident posed no threat and followed internationally recognized safety procedures.
