Renewed clashes in Nkwanta have left six dead, ten injured, and caused widespread destruction, prompting swift action from authorities and calls for greater cooperation to resolve ongoing disputes.

Fifty individuals suspected of involvement in the recent violence were arrested during a security operation in Shiare, Oti Region, on Tuesday, January 21.

The suspects are set to undergo screening before facing legal proceedings.

DCOP Osman Abdul Razak, the National Security Coordinator, visited Nkwanta to assess the situation and engage in peace talks with traditional leaders from the conflicting factions.

In an update on the violence, DCOP Alex Acquah, Oti Regional Police Commander, reported that the renewed conflict has resulted in six deaths, ten injuries, and significant property damage, including twelve destroyed homes and a shop.

Addressing the root causes of the unrest, DCOP Abdul Razak emphasized the ongoing chieftaincy and land disputes in the region. He called for stronger collaboration among security agencies to address these persistent challenges.

Maj Gen Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, Chief of Army Staff, commended the joint efforts of security personnel, underscoring their vital role in restoring peace and stability to the area.
