National Cathedral

The government has no plans to convert the stalled National Cathedral project into a National Cultural Convention Centre, according to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications.

Speaking on July 22, 2025, Kwakye Ofosu described reports suggesting the government’s intention to repurpose the project as “inaccurate and misleading”.

He explained that a continental organization currently renting space in Accra had submitted an unsolicited proposal to establish its headquarters on the site, which includes constructing a cultural and convention centre for Ghana.

However, Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that the proposal has neither been accepted nor considered by the government.

Kwakye Ofosu reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s position on the National Cathedral project, stating categorically that no public funds will be used to continue its construction.

He added that any future decisions regarding the site will be made after the completion of a forensic audit.
