Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been hospitalized after falling ill during an interrogation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra.
Lawyer Provides Update
Wontumi’s lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, confirmed the development, stating that his client was receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Appiah Kubi added that the interrogation was ongoing and would resume once Wontumi’s condition improves.
Background of Investigation
Wontumi was initially invited by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for questioning over alleged illegal mining activities. He was subsequently handed over to EOCO for further investigation.

Appiah Kubi also mentioned a writ of summons filed by Exim Bank against Wontumi, which the defense team plans to respond to.
The lawyer expressed confidence in mounting a strong defense.
