The lifeless body of a prison officer, identified as Constable Clement Tei Gyabah, was discovered in River Pompo at Pomposo, a suburb of the Obuasi East District, early on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

His motorbike was found alongside him in the river, though the exact circumstances leading to the tragic incident remain unclear.

According to some eyewitnesses, Constable Gyabah was seen riding his motorcycle to work around 5:00 AM on Wednesday morning from Asokore, amidst a drizzle. Reports suggest he may have veered off the road, striking a concrete barricade that serves as a pedestrian safety barrier separating traffic from the River Pompo.

Conversely, other accounts suggest he might have been struck by a moving vehicle on that stretch of road, leading to the unfortunate incident. This theory is supported by lacerations reportedly found on parts of his body.

Residents and passers-by were left in shock upon the discovery of the body on Wednesday morning. Police have since retrieved the body and transported it to the morgue, pending a full investigation.

Officials from the Ghana Prisons Service have confirmed the incident and stated that an official statement will be issued in due course.
