President John Dramani Mahama has strongly condemned the recent outbreak of violence in Bawku, describing the unrest as deeply troubling and counterproductive to peace efforts.

He reaffirmed his support for the mediation process led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, which he believes holds the key to achieving lasting stability in the region.

Speaking at the Ghana Military Academy’s Graduation Parade on Friday, April 11, 2025, President Mahama addressed the worsening situation in Bawku, where clashes between local youth and security forces on April 10 reportedly resulted in casualties and injuries.

Among the incidents, the private residence of Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, was also reportedly set ablaze.

President Mahama underscored the essential role of the Ghana Armed Forces in safeguarding national security, noting that Bawku remains one of the most complex and volatile conflict zones in the country. He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, warning that continued violence serves no one’s interest.

He expressed strong optimism about the mediation process being spearheaded by the Asantehene, who is expected to resume peace talks next week following his return from an overseas engagement. Mahama praised Otumfuo’s inclusive, stakeholder-led approach, which aims to bring together all parties in a unified pursuit of peace.

In a firm statement on law and justice, President Mahama assured the public that all criminal acts related to the conflict will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

“There will be no games of smoke and mirrors. My administration is focused on real solutions, not distractions,” he said.

Mahama’s remarks reinforce his administration’s commitment to justice, reconciliation, and a peaceful resolution to one of Ghana’s most enduring conflicts.
