Ghana’s Parliament will reconvene today, December 16, 2024, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), marking its first session since the transformative December 7 elections that reshaped the political landscape of the country.

The session, called by Speaker Alban Bagbin in a circular on December 11, comes at a pivotal moment following a significant electoral outcome.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured a majority in Parliament, unseating key figures from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including Ursula Owusu-Ekulful, Henry Quartey, and KT Hammond. The NDC’s victory in the elections also saw John Dramani Mahama reclaim the presidency, defeating the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Before the elections, Speaker Bagbin resisted calls from the Majority Caucus to recall Parliament for urgent matters, maintaining that legislative activities would resume post-election. This decision sparked debate, but it paved the way for today’s crucial session.

As Parliament resumes, the focus will be on preparing for the transition to the new administration, discussing legislative priorities, and addressing key national issues. With Ghana entering a new era of governance, today’s session is set to be a critical moment in shaping the country’s future.
