Parliament has called on all Members of Parliament to assemble on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 12:05 a.m. for the election of a new Speaker and Deputy Speakers, as well as the swearing-in of the Speaker and Members of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

This session, which supersedes the earlier scheduled date of Monday, January 6 at 11:00 p.m., is in line with the constitutional and procedural requirements for the opening of a new parliamentary term.

In a statement issued on January 3, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Acting Clerk to Parliament, explained that the time change is consistent with Article 124 of the Constitution and Order 8(2) of Parliament’s Standing Orders.

Djietror’s statement read:

“KNOW YE ALL MEN that in the exercise of the powers conferred on me as Acting Clerk to Parliament, I, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, appointed under Article 124 of the Constitution and pursuant to Order 8(2) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, do hereby appoint Parliament House, Accra, to be the place and five minutes past twelve midnight (12:05 a.m.) of Tuesday, the 7th day of January 2025 to be the time when Parliament shall sit to elect a Speaker and Deputy Speakers and for the administration of Oaths to the Speaker and Members of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.”

This session will formally mark the beginning of the Ninth Parliament’s work in the Fourth Republic.
