The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has announced that the reconvening of Parliament, set for Monday, December 16, 2024, will take place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
This decision follows a circular from the Speaker’s Office issued on December 11, confirming the location for the upcoming session.
The move aligns with a prior notice from Speaker Bagbin on December 2, 2024, calling for the Parliament to resume its functions.
The choice of date and venue comes amid ongoing political discussions and preparations for the post-election period.
The reconvening of Parliament on December 16 has sparked significant debate, particularly due to its timing and the context of the announcement.
Speaker Bagbin had previously faced requests from the Majority in Parliament to call back the House ahead of the December 7 general elections.
These requests were made in light of the electoral process and the need for legislative intervention before the elections.
However, Speaker Bagbin rejected the calls and decided to stick with the original date for Parliament’s return.
