On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the reporter uncovered allegations that certain individuals within Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) were conspiring to tarnish the reputation of its former CEO, Prof. Dr. Otchere Addai‑Mensah.

According to sources, the alleged conspirators are largely medical professionals who were disciplined by Prof. Addai‑Mensah for engaging in extortion and unethical behaviour. Others are reportedly members of the Bantama branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), allegedly seeking to damage his character to create openings for political appointees at KATH.

Allegories Against the Former CEO

The group is said to plan reviving ongoing EOCO investigations related to financial disbursements by two bygone CEOs tied to a U.S.-based outfit called ACESO, hoping to implicate Prof. Addai‑Mensah by association. They also intend to falsely accuse him of rapid personal property acquisition during his tenure at KATH.

Context and Rebuttal

In 2024, Prof. Addai‑Mensah voluntarily complied with EOCO inquiries regarding fund disbursals made by his predecessors through ACESO. Despite not being implicated personally, he cooperated fully, providing crucial evidence discovered in internal investigations conducted with the Hospital Board and management.

Multiple verifications show that Prof. Addai‑Mensah executed no personal building projects during his two-year tenure at KATH. In fact, his known property developments—including projects in Tikrom near Ejisu—were each completed over extended periods (8 to 10 years) and long before his appointment to KATH.

Political Motives and IGF Dynamics

A source suggests that the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman, under pressure to accommodate party loyalists, may have colluded with current KATH leadership to discredit Prof. Addai‑Mensah. Purportedly, this aims to justify mass recruitment at KATH using internally generated funds (IGF)—a funding source that surged significantly during Prof. Addai‑Mensah’s time as CEO.

Social Media Disinformation

Meanwhile, NDC-affiliated groups have circulated false allegations on Facebook, attacking the Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKaP)—a renovation initiative launched to transform KATH’s main blocks—claiming mismanagement where none is substantiated.
