A police officer, Constable John Kwabena Dogbe, has tragically drowned in the River Offin during an operation aimed at curbing illegal mining (galamsey) activities in the Central North region. The incident occurred earlier today.
Constable Dogbe’s body was recovered after a search lasting several hours by local police and rescue teams.
While the precise circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are still under investigation, sources suggest that the officer may have accidentally fallen into the river during the operation. Authorities have launched a full probe to determine the exact cause of the drowning.
The body of Constable John Kwabena Dogbe has been conveyed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.
This incident underscores the dangers faced by security personnel involved in efforts to combat illegal mining, a persistent issue in the Ashanti Region and other parts of Ghana.
