The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect captured in a widely circulated video assaulting a man with a machete.

The suspect, identified as Dawuda Sumaila, was apprehended on April 9, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation. He is accused of attacking a young man with a machete near a fuel tanker in a disturbing incident that sparked public outrage online.

The assault, which occurred on Friday, April 4, in Anyinam, Eastern Region, was caught on video and quickly went viral on social media, prompting widespread condemnation and calls for swift justice.

Sumaila, reported to be a tanker driver’s mate, is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that the matter is being treated with urgency and that updates will be provided as investigations continue.
