A police night patrol intercepted a gang of armed robbers on the Wenchi-Awisa road, resulting in a deadly confrontation that left one suspect dead, while others managed to flee the scene.

The incident occurred around 3:40 am on Saturday, December 28, when the police spotted the gang targeting passengers aboard Sprinter and Yutong buses. The robbers were engaged in a gunfight with the police near the Awisa cemetery after the officers attempted to intervene.

One of the suspects was shot and killed during the exchange, and his body was later transported to the Wenchi Government Hospital mortuary. The other members of the gang managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Police recovered key items from the scene, including a locally-made single-barrel gun, two Itel phones, a power bank, six BB cartridges, and an undisclosed amount of money. Thankfully, all passengers aboard the buses were unharmed.
