Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has urged candidates in Ghana’s upcoming December 7 general elections to accept the results in the spirit of peace and democracy.

Jonathan, who heads the West African Elders Forum and is leading the ECOWAS mission to Ghana, is at the forefront of efforts to ensure a peaceful election process.

The West African Elders Forum, composed of former presidents from the region, works to mediate and resolve conflicts that may arise during elections.

In a meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce on December 5, Jonathan emphasized the need for a credible and transparent election. He called on all stakeholders to uphold Ghana’s reputation as a model of democracy in West Africa.

“We are advocating for peaceful, transparent, and credible elections that will leave all stakeholders satisfied. As the IGP mentioned, we also ask our political colleagues to maintain peace,” Jonathan stated.

He reminded politicians that only one candidate can win in an election and urged them to be prepared to accept either victory or defeat.
