President John Dramani Mahama has officially revoked the appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) as of January 8, 2025.

A statement from the Office of the President confirmed that the decision was made in accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and its subsequent amendment under the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).

In the interim, the statement directed Coordinating Directors from the various MMDAs to temporarily assume the roles and responsibilities of the MMDCEs until further appointments are made.

“The respective Coordinating Directors are to take on the duties of Acting Chief Executives until permanent appointments are announced,” the statement concluded.
