President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing policies that will stimulate the growth of the private sector and drive economic development in Ghana.
In his speech following his swearing-in as the sixth President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic at the Independence Square on January 7, 2025, Mahama emphasized the critical role the private sector will play in the country’s economic future. He outlined his administration’s plan to create a favorable environment for business growth, job creation, and youth empowerment.
“Our policies will prioritize innovation and foster industries that engage young people, providing them with the skills necessary to thrive in tomorrow’s economy,” President Mahama stated.
He underscored that his government will focus on equipping the youth with the tools needed to succeed and empowering them to become key drivers of economic progress. “Youth employment and skills development will be at the forefront of our efforts to fuel national economic growth,” he added.
Acknowledging the vital contribution of the private sector, Mahama committed to working closely with business leaders to support the expansion of companies and the creation of decent, well-paying jobs. “In partnership with the private sector, we will strive to create a dynamic job market, ensuring that Ghanaian businesses grow and generate sustainable employment,” he said. “Our approach will ensure diversity and inclusiveness in governance and economic growth.”
A key component of President Mahama’s economic strategy is the introduction of a 24-hour economy policy. He emphasized that the agricultural sector, particularly agribusiness, will play a central role in this initiative. By leveraging agribusiness, Mahama aims to unlock untapped potential and fuel growth across various sectors.
“The 24-hour economy policy will be grounded in agriculture and agribusiness,” Mahama explained. “This innovative approach will harness the full potential of our people, creating a vibrant and responsive economy.”
President Mahama also stressed the importance of ensuring that markets and public services operate seamlessly throughout the day. “Imagine a Ghana where our markets are thriving at all times, with responsive public services available round the clock to meet the needs of businesses and citizens alike,” he said, highlighting the transformative impact this policy will have on the nation.
With a clear focus on creating a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable economy, President Mahama’s government aims to provide the foundation for growth and prosperity for all Ghanaians.
