The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has announced the appointment of Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Manso Opuni as its new Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective Monday, July 14, 2025.

Prof. Opuni succeeds Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, who has led the Authority since 2017. Dr. Darko recently assumed the role of Director General of the Africa Medicines Agency (AMA), a significant milestone in her longstanding career in public health and regulatory leadership.

Before his appointment, Prof. Opuni served as the Board Chairman of the FDA, and brings to the role a wealth of experience in public health policy, regulatory governance, and institutional leadership.

In an official statement, the FDA congratulated Prof. Opuni on his new role and expressed confidence in his capacity to lead the Authority in delivering on its core mandate to protect public health and ensure the safety of regulated products.

His appointment comes at a critical time as the FDA intensifies efforts to strengthen regulatory frameworks, bolster consumer protection, and ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of food, pharmaceuticals, and other regulated commodities in Ghana.
