Paris Saint-Germain has secured the signature of Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, signing him to a contract that extends until June 2029.
Kvaratskhelia, heavily linked with Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea, had requested a departure from Serie A champions Napoli last week after failing to agree on a contract extension.
While the official transfer fee remains undisclosed, reports suggest that French champions PSG paid a substantial sum of €70 million (£59 million) plus potential add-ons to acquire the talented forward.
“It’s a dream come true to join PSG,” expressed the 23-year-old winger. “I’ve heard incredible things about this prestigious club.” He continued, “I feel immense pride in joining such a renowned institution and am eagerly anticipating donning my new colors.”
Kvaratskhelia, who recently guided Georgia to the last 16 of Euro 2024, earned the affectionate nickname “Kvaradona” from Napoli supporters during their triumphant title-winning campaign, a nod to the club’s legendary figure, Diego Maradona.
His journey to the Parisian giants began in 2022 when he joined Napoli from Georgian club Dinamo Batumi for a modest fee of £9 million. During his time in Italy, he showcased his exceptional talent, contributing a remarkable 54 combined goals and assists in 107 appearances.
Kvaratskhelia marks PSG’s first acquisition of the January transfer window and holds the distinction of being the first Georgian player to grace the club’s history.
“Khvicha is undoubtedly one of the most electrifying players in world football,” declared the club. “He possesses not only extraordinary talent but also unwavering courage and a relentless fighting spirit that benefits the entire team.”
PSG currently leads Ligue 1 with a comfortable seven-point advantage over Marseille. They face a crucial match against Lens this Saturday before a highly anticipated Champions League clash with Manchester City on Wednesday.
