Brussels, Belgium – Belgian footballer Radja Nainggolan has been arrested as part of a large-scale investigation into cocaine trafficking.

The 36-year-old was among several individuals apprehended by Belgian police during raids conducted across the country on Monday morning.

The Brussels prosecutor’s office released a statement confirming the investigation, stating, “The investigation concerns alleged facts of importation of cocaine from South America to Europe, via the port of Antwerp, and its redistribution in Belgium.”

No further details about the arrest have been made public.

This arrest comes just days after Nainggolan’s return to professional football, having recently signed with Lokeren in the Belgian second division. He scored in his debut match for the club.

Nainggolan, a midfielder known for his time with Roma and Inter Milan, also represented the Belgian national team on 30 occasions between 2009 and 2018.
