Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has declared three days of national mourning in Spain

La Liga champions Real Madrid’s match against Valencia, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to severe flash floods in Spain.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced the postponement of all matches in the Valencia region, where at least 95 people have lost their lives and many others are missing following torrential rainfall.

On Thursday, Real Madrid and the Red Cross jointly donated $1 million (£845,000) to aid those affected by the flooding. In a statement, the club emphasized, “The donation will help the numerous families currently facing a critical situation and in need of our support and solidarity.”

Additionally, Villarreal’s La Liga fixture against Rayo Vallecano has also been called off, along with three Segunda Division matches: Castellon vs. RC Ferrol, CD Eldense vs. SD Huesca, and Malaga’s visit to Levante.

In Liga F, the women’s top division, several matches have been postponed, including Valencia’s game against Deportivo La Coruna and Real Madrid’s match against Levante.

The RFEF received requests from La Liga, Liga F, and various clubs to postpone all professional matches in the affected area due to the flooding. Several Copa del Rey matches, including Valencia’s trip to Parla Escuela, had already been rescheduled.

To honor the victims, a minute’s silence will be observed during the weekend’s games as a gesture of solidarity from Spanish football for those affected, particularly the families of the deceased in this natural disaster.
