Simone Inzaghi has officially stepped down as manager of Inter Milan following a mutual agreement with the club, just three days after their heavy defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

The 49-year-old Italian coach, who joined Inter in 2021, has been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabian giants Al-Hilal.

“The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey during which I gave everything,” Inzaghi said in a farewell message. “To the millions of Nerazzurri fans who supported me—through joy, pain, and our six trophies—I will never forget you.”

His departure was confirmed following a meeting with club executives on Tuesday.

“Inter Milan and Simone Inzaghi have decided to part ways by mutual consent,” the club stated. “We thank him for his contributions and leadership.”

Club president Giuseppe Marotta added: “I want to personally thank Simone for his hard work, passion, and honesty during our discussions. Only those who have truly shared the daily fight for success can have such an open and respectful dialogue.”

During his tenure, Inzaghi led Inter to one Serie A title, two Coppa Italia victories, and three Supercoppa Italiana wins. He also reached two UEFA Champions League finals: a narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City in 2022–23, followed by a crushing 5-0 defeat to PSG last Saturday.

Inter narrowly missed out on the 2024–25 Serie A title, finishing just one point behind champions Napoli.

Inzaghi’s exit comes ahead of Inter’s participation in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13. Notably, Al-Hilal—his rumored next destination—will also compete in the tournament.
