A soldier has been confirmed dead, and six others have sustained severe injuries following a fatal accident on the Bolgatanga-Bawku road.
The identities of the deceased and the injured have not yet been released.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, near Saka, close to Zebilla. The vehicle involved was a light-armoured Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) vehicle traveling from Bawku to Bolgatanga.
Reports suggest that the vehicle, which was moving at high speed, lost control after one of its tyres detached, causing the crash.
The injured soldiers were promptly transported to the Zebilla District Hospital for urgent medical care.
The Zebilla District Police Command responded quickly to a distress call and assisted with evacuating the injured soldiers.
This incident has raised renewed concerns among residents along the highway about the frequent overspeeding of military vehicles, a factor that has contributed to multiple accidents and fatalities in recent months.
In October 2024, a similar accident occurred when a military vehicle traveling from Bawku to Bolgatanga crashed at Bazua, resulting in the death of a soldier.
Two additional accidents involving military armoured vehicles occurred in Zebilla and Bazua on January 9 and February 11, 2025, respectively, which led to the deaths of two motorcyclists.
