A Real Mallorca fan has received a 12-month suspended prison sentence for racially abusing Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr and former Villarreal player Samuel Chukwueze.
The supporter, who also faced a three-year stadium ban, had his sentence suspended after apologizing in writing to Vinicius Jr and completing anti-discrimination training.
Real Madrid stated, “We will continue to uphold our values and combat racist behavior in football and sports.” The club also confirmed a separate incident involving a minor, who received a one-year stadium ban for racially abusing midfielder Aurélien Tchouameni.
Vinicius Jr has faced repeated racial abuse since joining Real Madrid in 2018. Recently, three Valencia fans received eight-month prison sentences for racist insults directed at him.
The player has called for Spain to address racism in stadiums, suggesting the country’s 2030 World Cup hosting duties should be reevaluated if progress isn’t made.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about racism in Spanish football.
