Accra, Ghana – Sports Minister Kofi Adams has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to prioritize fiscal discipline and align its operations with national directives to ensure sustainable growth for the sport. He emphasized the need to rebuild trust with fans and operate within the government’s framework of accountability.
Adams stressed that the GFA must adhere to President Mahama’s directives regarding foreign travel restrictions, including the ban on unauthorized trips and the limitation to business class travel. He explained that these directives reflect the President’s commitment to fiscal prudence and that the GFA should mirror this approach. “The GFA cannot operate in isolation while the government prioritizes discipline and accountability,” Adams stated.
The Minister also highlighted the declining trust between football management and fans, acknowledging the challenges facing Ghanaian football. He pledged to engage with the GFA to foster a shared understanding and cooperation, expressing confidence that they would work together to address these issues. “Our football is struggling, and the trust level between management and fans is at an all-time low,” he commented, underscoring the importance of dialogue and collaboration to revitalize the sport.
