The Children’s Support Fund, initiated by President John Dramani Mahama to support the children of those who died in the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, has so far raised GHS 2,315,000.00.
This was revealed by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, in a statement highlighting the strong response from corporate Ghana.
President Mahama announced the establishment of the Fund during the state funeral held on Friday, August 15, for the eight victims, including Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Environment Minister, Murtala Muhammed.
The Fund is intended to ensure long-term support for the victims’ children, covering their education, health, and general well-being.

Stanbic Bank Ghana contributed the first donation of GHS 500,000.00. Other early contributors include:

The Children’s Support Fund reflects the government’s commitment to honouring the sacrifices made by the victims by ensuring their children are not left behind.
The helicopter crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofoum District of the Ashanti Region, claimed all eight lives on board and sent shockwaves across the nation. The state funeral drew high-level attendance, including President Mahama, traditional leaders, and grieving families.
President Mahama’s announcement of the Fund was a promise to uphold the memory of the fallen through dedicated support to their children’s futures.
