Police in Somanya are investigating the suspicious death of a 30-year-old tricycle (Pragyia) rider, Otu Samuel, whose naked body was found near a gutter in the Dorhetso area, a suburb of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
His tricycle, with registration number M-23-GR 7942, was discovered burning nearby. The grim discovery was made in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Initial eyewitness accounts suggest that Samuel and passengers in his tricycle were allegedly pursued to the location at approximately 2:00 AM, following accusations of theft. While the other individuals reportedly managed to flee, Samuel was left behind and subsequently found dead.
Interestingly, local residents interviewed by the police have stated that they did not hear any commotion or witness any mob violence in the area.
Medical staff at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital pronounced Otu Samuel dead upon arrival. His body has since been transferred to the hospital’s morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The police are appealing to the public for any information 1 that could assist their ongoing investigation into this suspected brutal murder. For residents in Somanya and the surrounding areas, this mysterious death and the torched tricycle have raised concerns about potential mob justice and the safety of transport operators.
