Three invigilators in Ghana’s Ashanti Region have been arrested and subsequently granted bail for their alleged involvement in examination malpractices during the ongoing 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The suspects were apprehended at various examination centers, including Twedie and Mampong, following tip-offs. According to Ernest Akoto Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the invigilators were allegedly caught with photocopied answers and images of examination questions on their mobile phones. In some cases, candidates were also found with similar unauthorized materials.

Mr. Yeboah expressed grave concern over these incidents, warning that such breaches severely threaten the credibility of the examination process.

“We are preparing our report on those cases, and we have forwarded it to Accra,” he stated. “The committee in Accra will sit on the report and decide on what to do; ours is just to submit the report. As to how it will happen next year, we will talk about it after the exams.”

WAEC’s headquarters is expected to take further action once the report is reviewed.
