Three individuals were fatally shot by police officers while attempting to evade arrest for alleged illegal mining activities at the Newmont Ahafo South site in the Ahafo Region.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when police officers encountered a group of eight suspected illegal miners. As the police approached, the group attempted to flee, prompting the officers to open fire.

Three individuals were killed in the ensuing exchange, while five others sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The incident has sparked outrage in Acherensua, with local youth staging protests and demanding justice for the victims.
