Jurrien Timber believes Arsenal can “change the narrative” of their season by securing a win against PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League last 16 tie.
Despite their strong performance in the Champions League group stage, Arsenal has faced challenges in recent weeks, including injuries to key attackers Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli. They have also struggled to score in their last two matches and trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by 13 points.
Ahead of the first leg against PSV, Timber, who has made 36 appearances this season after recovering from a serious injury, emphasized the team’s motivation and quality. “I think tomorrow is a beautiful game to change the narrative and to win,” he stated.
Timber acknowledged the team’s injury woes but expressed confidence in their ability to overcome them. “I think we have so much quality in our group, of course we have a lot of injuries, especially up front, but it’s a beautiful challenge for us to put our front players – or anyone – to score goals and hopefully we can show that,” he said.
He stressed the importance of scoring and winning in the Champions League, where second chances are limited. “We have to score tomorrow, we have to win and in the Champions League you only have two games, so you don’t get second chances. So we have to go for it in this game.”
Timber views the team’s recent struggles as a challenge rather than a negative, and believes the PSV match is an opportunity to prove their resilience. “I don’t think of it as a negative, but we have been through a lot – especially in the last couple of weeks,” he said. “But what I said is I think it is a challenge for us and we just have to take it. Tomorrow is beautiful game to show that – and we will definitely show that tomorrow.”
