A tourist was killed and another injured in a shark attack in the Red Sea resort of Marsa Alam, Egypt.

The Egyptian Ministry of Environment confirmed the incident, stating that the attack occurred in deep water outside the designated swimming area.

Following the attack, authorities have closed the jetties in the area for two days.

Marsa Alam, known for its stunning coral reefs and marine life, is a popular tourist destination.

This incident comes after a similar shark attack in Hurghada in June 2023, where a Russian tourist was killed.

Last month, a separate incident occurred in the same area when a tourist boat capsized, resulting in four deaths and seven missing persons.
