Former West African light-heavyweight champion, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju, has tragically died after collapsing during a boxing match in Accra on Saturday.
The 40-year-old Nigerian veteran was competing in an undercard bout against Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at the Bukom Boxing Arena when he suddenly lost consciousness.
Video footage circulating on social media captured the shocking moment of Olanrewaju’s collapse in the ring. Reports indicate that despite a competitive and friendly exchange, and being ahead on points against the Accra-born Mbanugu, Olanrewaju suddenly faltered.
