A heartbreaking incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 8, at Gyinyase in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of a nurse, Linda Agyemang, and her three children, aged 7, 10, and 14.

The family of four had gone to bed the previous night, but unfortunately, it was their last.

The fire, which started around 3:30 a.m., engulfed their three-bedroom apartment, leaving no chance for escape.

Despite the desperate cries for help from the children, their lives could not be saved.

A co-tenant, Owusu George, recounted the horrific scene: “My wife woke me up to inform me about the fire. I rushed to the scene and heard the children screaming for help. While trying to break the door, I heard a loud explosion from the kitchen area, which I suspect may have been a gas cylinder. Another person joined me in attempting to break the window to rescue the children, but unfortunately, our efforts were unsuccessful.”

The firefighters received the distress call around 4:30 a.m. and arrived at the scene 10 minutes later.

However, the fire had already consumed the victims, leaving no chance for rescue.

The incident has left the family and friends of the deceased in a state of shock and devastation.

This tragic event is part of a larger trend of fire outbreaks in the Ashanti Region, with over 100 incidents recorded between January 1 and February 7, 2025, resulting in at least six deaths.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy, while the Ghana National Fire Service investigates the cause of the fire.
