Bekwai, Ghana – Two Air Force personnel have been sentenced to 10 years of hard labor each by the Asante Bekwai Circuit Court for the kidnapping and robbery of a small-scale miner.
Lance Corporals Alfred Mensah, 33, and Matthew Amoako, 28, were found guilty of kidnapping and robbing Mr. Andrews Asante of GH₵96,500.00 on November 25, 2023.
The soldiers, disguised in military uniforms, raided Mr. Asante’s home in Ametubuom, torturing him and his friends before stealing the money.
Despite their denials, the court found them culpable. Three other accomplices, including other military personnel and a driver, remain at large.
While the soldiers admitted to their involvement and provided information about the stolen money, their accomplices are still being sought by authorities.
The stolen items were later recovered from a forest hideout.
