The United Kingdom is on track to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup after FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed their bid as the only “valid” one received for the tournament.

A joint expression of interest was submitted in March by England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to host the event across the home nations. FIFA’s rotation policy dictates that the 2035 tournament must be held in Europe or Africa.

Despite earlier indications of a potential joint bid from Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, the deadline for expressions of interest passed on Monday, and Infantino announced at a UEFA congress in Belgrade that the UK’s bid was the sole one for 2035. The United States is set to host the 2031 edition.

Infantino stated that this development paves the way for the Women’s World Cup to be held in “great nations,” further boosting the women’s game. Formal confirmation of the UK as hosts is expected following FIFA’s consideration of the bid.
