Manchester United have submitted a third offer for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with the deal potentially reaching £70 million.
The latest bid is reported to be an upfront £65 million, with a further £5 million in performance-based add-ons. Brentford have yet to respond to the proposal.
United remain optimistic about completing the transfer and are keen to have Mbeumo join Ruben Amorim’s squad before they fly to the United States on Tuesday for a 13-day pre-season tour based in Chicago.
While United have been linked with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, Mbeumo has consistently been Amorim’s top target. The club hopes to finalize the deal in time for him to integrate into the squad during their three matches in the U.S.
The 25-year-old Cameroon international had an outstanding 2024–25 Premier League season, scoring 20 goals. He attracted interest from several clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur—now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank—but Mbeumo is understood to prefer a move to Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Brentford are also facing interest from Newcastle United in striker Yoane Wissa, their other primary attacking threat.
Improving attacking efficiency is a major focus for United after they managed just 44 league goals last season—their lowest total since their relegation campaign in 1973–74. Amorim has made no secret of his frustration over the team’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
United have already added striker Matheus Cunha and defender Diego León to their ranks this summer. Should Mbeumo arrive, it’s expected that captain Bruno Fernandes will shift into a deeper midfield role, allowing Cunha to take up one of the two inside forward positions behind a central striker in Amorim’s preferred setup.
The move could further cement the exclusion of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony—four attacking players currently out of the first-team picture.
United kick off their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford against Arsenal on 17 August.
