Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has promised to resolve the issue of over 300 pharmacists who have been working without pay since June 2023.

During the presentation of the 2025 budget, Dr. Forson acknowledged the plight of the unpaid pharmacists, stating that the issue was raised during a pre-budget consultation with young people on social media.

He assured Parliament that his ministry will take “urgent steps” to ensure the affected pharmacists receive their owed salaries.

“During my engagement with the youth, it was revealed that 321 pharmacists who were employed since June 2023, have not received their salaries. We will take urgent steps to remedy this situation immediately,” Dr. Forson stated.

This commitment comes as part of the government’s efforts to improve conditions for healthcare workers, many of whom have expressed concerns about delayed salaries and financial difficulties.

Dr. Forson also highlighted the importance of youth input in policymaking, noting that the consultation was “an eye-opening experience” that reinforced his belief in the impact of youth voices.
