The statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, Western Region, has been fully repaired after it was vandalized on December 16, 2024.
The attack left the statue with a broken left leg and the removal of its plaque bearing the president’s name.
The Ghana Police Service quickly launched an investigation into the incident, confirming the damage to the statue.
However, recent visuals show the statue has been restored to its original state, with the leg fully repaired and the plaque reattached.
This vandalism follows significant public backlash after the statue’s unveiling on November 6, 2024. Critics, including President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, accused President Akufo-Addo of self-glorification.
Many residents of Sekondi also expressed their displeasure with the statue, citing concerns over the condition of local infrastructure. Some even vowed to remove the statue if the NPP loses the December 2024 elections.
